Computers now occupy almost every part of our lives, from the smartphones we spend our days communicating on, to the laptops and desktops that are the foundation of every business. Campus Sustainability Month

Month of October

Held every October, Campus Sustainability Month is an international celebration of sustainability in higher education. Throughout the month, colleges and universities organize events on campus and elsewhere to engage and inspire incoming students and other campus stakeholders to become sustainability change agents. These events include teach-ins, sustainability pledge drives, zero-energy concerts, waste audits, green sporting events, letter writing campaigns, service projects and much more! World Architecture Day

World Architecture Day is a day to show appreciation for the work architects do and to celebrate some of the great global architectural works. Celebrate Architecture day by learning how to encourage learners to understand science and engineering skills by reflecting on what is happening and processing the outcome with this paper table STEM activity.

World Farm Animals Day

Help celebrate World Farm Animals Day by learning how to model science on the farm and how to encourage youth to see the science that surrounds them.

World Space Week 

October 4-10

More than 3,700 events in 80 countries celebrated the benefits of space and excitement about space exploration in 2017. This year looks to be even bigger with the theme “Space Unites The World.”

In collaboration with NASA, the NISE Network is creating a series of engaging, hands-on Earth and space science experiences with connections to science, technology, and society.

World Teacher Day

National Nano Day

National Nanotechnology Day helps raise awareness of nanotechnology, how it is currently used in products that enrich our daily lives, and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future. Visit the National Informal STEM Education Network (NISE) for more nano celebrations.

Astronomy Day

Astronomy Day is a worldwide event observed each spring and fall. Local astronomical societies, planetariums, museums, and observatories will be sponsoring public viewing sessions, presentations, workshops, and other activities to increase public awareness about astronomy and our wonderful universe.

Learn to enable active STEM learning in your program through the topic of space with resources from NASA and beyond. Active learning engages youth in critical thinking and problem-solving. It builds their skills to be college and career ready - and supports them in developing a positive STEM identity.

Earth Science Day

Earth Sciences Week is a yearly event run by the American Geosciences Institute to promote the knowledge of Earth sciences at local, state, national, and international levels. Celebrate Earth Sciences Week by learning how to make connections to a variety of STEM careers throughout an earthquake-proof house building activity and explore strategies for strengthening your practice in this area.

Nuclear Science Day

Nuclear Science Week invites people from all over the globe to “Get to Know Nuclear” and participate in a week-long celebration that advances education, stimulates participation and generates communication that provides insight and visibility for the achievements of the nuclear sciences.

International Observe the Moon Night

International Observe the Moon Night

International Observe the Moon Night is an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation and appreciation of the Moon. All are invited to observe the Moon, learn about NASA planetary science and exploration, and celebrate cultural and personal connections to our nearest neighbor.

Celebrate this special day with our Prepping for Learning staff development guide where participants will experience a poorly facilitated STEM activity and develop a list of considerations to make when planning for STEM learning as you build a contraption that can take someone to the moon.

National Chemistry Week 

October 21-27

National Chemistry Week (NCW) encourages people to build awareness of chemistry at the local level and to promote the value of chemistry in everyday life. NCW 2018 theme is "Chemistry is Out of This World." Check out the NCW 2018 edition of Celebrating Chemistry for more information and online resources.

Animation Day

Animation is everywhere these days, and most of us have been raised on it. Starting with our Saturday Morning Cartoons that we enjoyed with our sugary bowl of cereal, straight through to our favorite video games and movies of today, our view of the world has often been shaped by this amazing art form.
